Tips to a Good Newborn Care for Mothers and Caregivers

Every mother worries about taking care of her newborn baby, especially if it is her first child. Babies are normally very sensitive during their first three months. Good newborn care is therefore very crucial to every mother in order to ensure that the baby grows into a strong healthy kid. When a baby is born, it is introduced to an environment that is very difficult from that of the womb. If good newborn care measures are not put into place to help the baby adopt into the new environment, the newborn suffers a lot. Chances are the baby could as well get sick or develop some deformities.

New born babies are normally very sensitive to the environment that surrounds them and mothers and caregivers should ensure that they have all the basic needs required for a newborn care. It's worth noting that in the first 2 weeks after birth the baby is normally weak and all that it needs is breastfeeding and sleeping. After 2 weeks, the baby spends more time lying awake and needs more attention. The baby begins to play by sucking anything that comes new its mouth. It is therefore important to ensure that there is nothing harmful to the baby that could be sucked.

Baby Bassinet

While providing a newborn care, it is essential to ensure that you are aware why your baby is crying because that is its way of communicating with the outside world. Ordinarily, new born babies cry when they experience cold, hunger, fear, dislike, or pain. However, babies can cry even when they need nothing and this is good for their lungs and body exercise. During the first month after birth, a baby should cry approximately 2 times a day. As a newborn caregiver, you should therefore learn to understand why the baby is crying in different occasions and respond accordingly.

Newborn care cannot be complete without ensuring that the baby is well bathed. Always remember not to leave a baby alone during the bath. This is very dangerous and your baby could be drown to death. A newborn baby should be bathed at least once a day. During the bath, warm water and mild soaps should be used. The baby should be well rinsed and dried with a baby towel. It is advisable to apply baby jelly and oil on the baby's skin after birth to avoid skin cracking. However, never apply oil and lotions that are perfumed on the newborn skin.

It is also important to change new born diapers regularly to avoid diaper rash. Newborn care givers and mothers should ensure that the baby's skin is always clean and dry to avoid irritation. When it comes to feeding, a baby can tell you when he wants food or not as long as he is healthy. When the baby cries for food, give it to him and when he stops eating it means that he is satisfied. Sleep is another very important factor in newborn care. Newborn babies should spend most of their time sleeping. Newborn care givers should change the baby's sleeping position regularly and ensure the baby is not disturbed while asleep. Using a bassinet is the best for newborn babies up to three months because they are small and provide a cocoon that is very comforting to babies. After three months the baby can then be moved to a crib where they can sleep until they reach the age of about 2 to 3 years.
